The company was established in 2000 as Elders Rural Bank Ltd and changed its name to Rural Bank in 2009. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank in December 2010. In 2011, Australia Post and Rural Bank announced that they are joining forces to distribute Rural Bank products and services through selected post office outlets across rural and regional Australia.
