Volt Bank
Volt Bank Limited was a retail challenger bank headquartered in Sydney. Established in 2017, it became the first neobank to be granted a restricted ADI licence in 2018 and a full banking licence in 2019 from the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). With approximately 150 employees, it offered savings accounts, mortgage lending, Volt app, and debit MasterCard for any purchases and ATM withdrawals. The Bank was planning to provide transaction and joint accounts, and serving small businesses in the future. Steve Weston is founder and CEO of Volt Bank. As of June 2021, Volt had over $135 million in total assets and about $90 million in deposits. The company’s main competitors were 86 400, Xinja Bank, Up Money and Judo Bank.
In July 2022, Volt Bank closed its deposit taking business and returned its banking licence. Most of the deposits were transferred by customers to other financial institutions.
