Heartland Bank Limited (formerly Heartland Building Society) is a New Zealand owned financial institution offering savings accounts, direct call and business call accounts, term deposits, cash and term PIE funds, personal and home loans, car loans, reverse mortgages as well as rural lending, farm transition loans and livestock finance for Kiwi farmers. It also offers internet banking, mobile banking app, sheep & beef direct lending and other services. In 2020, it entered into retail mortgage segment with an online home loans platform. Heartland is the largest reverse mortgage provider in New Zealand as well as the leader in reverse mortgages in Australia through Heartland Seniors Finance. The Bank's history can be traced back to 1875 when Ashburton Permanent Building & Investment Society was founded. Subsequently it merged with SMC Building and Loan & Building societies to form CBS Canterbury. In 2011, Southern Cross Building Society, CBS Canterbury and MARAC Finance merged to create the Heartland Building Society which was renamed Heartland Bank in 2013. Today the company has about 500 employees, 12,000 shareholders, 120,000 customers and over NZ$5.3 billion in total assets. Heartland Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Heartland Group Holdings Limited.
